Natron & Soda Swap: Halloween 2013
This year I’ve wanted to take part in one of the Natron & Soda gothic sewing and crafting community swaps and I’ve decided to be part of the next Halloween swap. I was a bit followed by bad luck as my dear sewing machine got broken before I finished sewing the shirt. My only jersey sewing needle got broken after sewing 3/4 of the shirt and last but not least my iron said goodbye, too. After sewing machine was working again, I’ve decided to use nothing else than good Schmetz jersey needles (Amazon link) and after I’ve bought a new iron I was able to finish all the gifts right in time.
Here is an overview of what I’ve crafted for my swap-child:
- A crochet zombie kitty coffee cup cozy
- A bat which I’ve drawn in Adobe Illustrator and colored in Adobe Photoshop
- A crochet bat bobby pin (#65 Fantastic Crocheted Bat by SweaterBabe)
- A crochet spider Amigurumi (tiny crochet spider by Julie Kundhi)
- Fingerless mittens in the look of Nightmare before Christmas (Amazon link) based on Twinkie Chan’s Strawberry mittens pattern which can be found in her first book (Amazon link)
- A cute handmade black jersey shirt with bats on it which I would have loved to keep for myself
- A greeting card drawn and colored in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
Twinkie Chan: Strawberry fingerless mittens
A pair of cute イチゴ mittens for Masako. Quick and easy, I’ve made Twinkie Chan’s mittens several times already. You can find the pattern in her first amazing book. This pair of mittens will ship to Japan to warm the hands of my dear penpal Masako.

Natron & Soda Swap: Readymade Gothic shirt
It’s my first readymade sewing project which I did for a swap at the Natron & Soda community back in 2008. I’m a bit sad that I only could find those small photos of my shirt. It was my first time sewing jersey and printing fabric by stenciling.
I started with sewing a jersey shirt by myself but I punched a hole into the thin fabric while trying to remove a seam I was not happy with. Damn it! Due to the lack of time I bought a basic shirt and did a readymade like all of the participants did. I’m always tending to overdo it. (^_^)#
Twinkie Chan: Cupcake coffee cup cozy
Twinkie Chan’s pattern for this adorable cupcake coffee cup cozy was a 24-hours-freebie on her blog. It’s a perfect gift for each coffee lover or for giving away a jar full of homemade cookies or sweets! Now you can get her pattern on ravelry for $3.50.

Material used:
- Woll Butt Lisa in Hellgrün (Light Green), Rose (Pink), Rot (Red) and Schoko (Brown)
- Mini pompoms (Amazon link)
- Textilfix (Amazon link)
- Yarn needle
I simply used a 4.5 mm hook for creating the small one and a 5.0 mm hook for creating the big one. Such a quick and fun pattern!
Twinkie Chan: Chocolate cupcake hat
You can find this gorgeous cupcake hat pattern in Twinkie Chan’s first book »Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies«. This really got me hooked by all means. I already did crochet this hat twice. On the one seen on the photos I’ve added two crochet brooches – the cute lollipop brooch is a pattern from Twinkie Chan, too. Cuteness overflow!

Cute plum bear hood
I’ve made myself a bear hood! In Spring. o_O# I absolutely fell in love with the »Baylie Bear Cowl« by Heidi May. Heidi has a bunch of adorably cute patterns in her ravelry store so it’s worth taking a look!
It’s my first time working with such a big crochet hook. My set of aluminium hooks (Amazon link) ends with 8.0 mm so I had to buy a 10.0 mm hook for this project.
I took the chance to get one of the beautiful KnitPro Symfonie Wood (Amazon link) crochet hooks. First I thought that working with my aluminium hooks is more smooth but you get used to it and it’s much better for my hand which tends to hurt when I crochet too long. It took me about 1.8 skeins to finish the hood meaning about 215.6 meters and 360 grams.

Material used:
- Schachenmayr SMC Bravo Big in Aubergine
- 1 wooden button
- Yarn and sewing needles
Star Wars: Yoda coffee cup cozy
Yay, it’s my first crochet project without using a pattern and I’m so happy that little Yoda turned out to be as cute as planned! I’ve made this Yoda as well as the little cardboard coffee mug for my best friend’s birthday. I’ve drawn the coffee mug in Adobe Illustrator, colored it in Adobe Photoshop and glued the printed version on a blue piece of cardboard to cut it out in shape of the print then.
Pattern source: none – made by myself without taking notes -_-#
Material used:
- Woll Butt Silvia in green and light brown (discontinued already)
- 2 small buttons in black
- Sewing thread in black
- Yarn and sewing needles
