Jiji hexagon

Kiki’s purrrfect little friend =^._.^=

Kiki’s Delivery Service (Amazon link) is one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies. It’s cute, with some drama in it and a lovely end. Even the live action movie adaption (Amazon link) is surprisingly good! And so here we go with the third hexagon of my Studio Ghibli hexagon pattern series: Jiji! (^_^)

Jiji is a character invented by Kabushiki Kaisha Studio Ghibli and therefore all rights do belong to them. This pattern is for private use only. You are not allowed to sell this pattern or items made by using it.

Material

The hexagon made by using the materials listed is approximately 14 cm from each corner to corner. You can easily adjust its size by using thiner yarn such as Schachenmayr Catania (Amazon link) or Catania fine (Amazon link) and a smaller hook fitting your yarn choice.

  • Yarn – Schachenmayr Catania Grande (Amazon link) in Black, White, Pink, Purple and Red
  • Hook 4.0 mm
  • Stitch marker as for the eyes you are working in continuous rounds
  • Yarn needle

For Jiji you are working a one-colored basic hexagon

Eyes 2x (White, Black)

The eyes are worked in continuous rounds. Do not sl st to join. Use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds end if needed.

Start: with white yarn sc 6 in magic ring
Round 1: [inc] sc 2 in each st (12)
Round 2: [inc] [sc, sc 2 in next st] rep (18), join with sl st and f/o, leaving a long end for sewing.

Stitch on a narrow cat-like pupil on each eye using your black yarn. Place the eyes. I use stitch markers to attach each part temporary before sewing them on. Sew the eyes on using their loose ends.

Nose (Pink)

Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc, sc, (3) sl in same st, f/o, leaving a long end for sewing

Place the nose between the eyes, the bottom edge of the nose is in one line with the bottom side of the eyes. Sew it on by using the loose end.

Ears 2x (Black, Purple)

Start: with purple yarn ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3 (4), ch 1 and turn
Row 1: sc 4 (4), ch 1 and turn
Row 2: [dec] sc, sc2tog, sc (3), ch 1 and turn
Row 3: [dec] sc2tog, sc2tog working in the stitch you just finished before (2), ch 1 and turn
Row 4: [dec] Sc2tog (1), color change to Black, ch 1 and work sc along the edge stopping at the bottom. F/o and rejoin at the top again to sc across the other side. F/o, leaving a long end for sewing.

Sew ears on Jiji. I placed mine between round 3 and 4. Remember that you need the edge of your hexagons to join other hexagons.

Sewing action – just the ribbon is missing

Ribbon (Red)

Start: Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 11 (12), ch 1 and turn
Row 1-3: sc evenly, don’t forget to ch 1 and turn for row 1 and 2, f/o after row 3 leaving a long end.

Pull the yarn end to the middle by using your yarn needle. Wrap the yarn end around it to get your ribbon in shape. Secure end and leave it this way to sew the ribbon on your hexagon. Weave in all ends.

My pattern is on ravelry, too! I’m happy if you link my pattern in your Jiji hexagon project made by using this pattern. And maybe you would like to share a photo of your Jiji on my facebook page, too? ♡
